The fourth and final movie of our 2024 Summer Film Series will be “Hook.” This fantasy adventure film was released in 1991. It brings viewers back to Neverland, and the magical world of Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and Capt. Hook. To commemorate what would have been President Bush’s 100th birthday this summer, we looked at a list of 100 best family-friendly movies and selected four of our favorites that came out when President Bush was in office.

“Hook” is a fun twist on the classic Peter Pan story with many familiar characters. When his young children are taken by his old nemesis, Captain Hook, middle-aged lawyer Peter Banning returns to his magical origins as Peter Pan to save them. Peter must also revisit a foggy past in which he abandoned Neverland for a family life, leaving Tinkerbell and the Lost Boys to fend for themselves. Given their bitterness towards Peter for growing up- and their allegiance to their new leader, Rufio- the old gang may not be happy to see him.

Bring your blankets and lawn chairs as we enjoy this film under the stars. Games and free refreshments (while supplies last) will begin at 7 p.m., and the movie will start just after sundown. You may bring your coolers, but please no pets or glass containers.

This movie is being shown in conjunction with The Spirit of the Place, a special exhibit for 41@100: A Celebration of George H.W. Bush. This exhibit will explore the George H.W. Bush Presidential Center’s place in our community and its impact on the world. From the initial conversations to place the Bush Library & Museum at Texas A&M University, to the full development of the Bush Presidential Center, visitors will discover how President Bush and his ongoing legacy are intertwined with the Spirit of Aggieland. This exhibit will be on display in the Ansary Gallery of American History from June 10, 2024 – January 12, 2025.
