Grape Stomp 2019

The Grape Stomp Competition at Texas Reds provides a “Stompin’Good Time” for all attending the Steak & Grape Festival

The Texas Reds Steak & Grape Festival, held annually in Historic Downtown Bryan, truly has a lot to offer for everyone that attends.  Of course, there are tons of great wines and craft beers to taste from all over the state of Texas. There’s also the signature steak cook-off competition; followed by the delicious steak dinner. But there’s so much more than that. There are live music performances throughout the festival, arts & craft vendors, food trucks, shopping & dining in all of the wonderful boutiques and restaurants, and a kid zone with bounce houses, face painting, and balloon artists.

One of the always popular family-friendly events at the festival every year is the grape stomp competition presented by the Bryan Noon Lions Club. The event puts teams of two in competition against each other to see which team can do the best job stomping grapes to produce the most juice. The event is bushels of fun in its own right, but crowd interaction kicks it up a notch!

Contestants work to smash grapes and produce as much juice as possible within the time limit.

The event is emceed by radio personalities from iHeart Radio who do an outstanding job interacting with the crowd, razzing competitors, managing the music, and continually promoting the event and the sponsors. They help make the event truly enjoyable; not only for the participants but also for the crowds of spectators that gather around to watch.

The partnerships and sponsors are truly what enables us to put on a successful grape stomp every year. It takes a lot of volunteers and resources to make this a quality event.

For instance, another of our major sponsors each year is the Tejas Center HEB, who helps provide our grapes. It takes about four bushels of grapes per team each time they compete, and the event averages four teams every fifteen minutes; so that is a ton of grapes!

The Grape stomp does a lot more than offer a great time for attendees and build goodwill. It’s also one of the Bryan Noon Lions Club’s more prominent fundraisers every year.

The Lions Club is the world’s largest service club organization. As such, 100% of the funds that our club raises go back into our community in the form of special projects and charities. We are thrilled to put on the grape stomp competition each year. It allows our members to perform a great service for the community and all of the funds that we raise go towards worthy causes. We are especially grateful for all of our volunteers and sponsors for helping to make it all possible!
